Healthcare Design
We create highly functional, highly navigable healthcare structures that balance efficient spaces with a welcoming atmosphere.
We apply the same diligence to our healthcare projects as we do to the mixed-use buildings, neighborhoods, and commercial structures in our portfolio.
Hospitals and clinics are vital parts of any community, not only because they serve the health needs of the public but because they’re touchstones for care and welcoming.
Like any structure for the common good, a medical facility needs to function beautifully behind the scenes so providers can deliver the best care possible. They need patient care rooms, operating rooms, administrative stations, and other spaces that facilitate their work through carefully designed flow, placement of equipment, and adherence to Department of Health regulations and those of other regulating entities.
But hospitals and clinics also also need to be calm, organized, receptive spaces that welcome people in and reassure them. The way patients experience a structure is important; they need to know who to talk to, where to go, how to get there, and what happens next. Wayfinding, functionality, sensitivity to providers’ needs, and future-proofing so a structure can adapt to changing care standards all contribute to success for both providers and patients.
As architects, we know how to address all of these functions through a distinct and comprehensive design. The core of our firm’s approach centers around curiosity, listening, and adaptive problem solving. These hard-won professional skills apply to every aspect of the design solution, from technical to artistic.
We immerse ourselves in the details of every project, ensuring a streamlined workflow. We use wayfinding skills to ensure that patients can navigate the physical space quickly and easily, a must when vulnerable populations need care.
We combine our expertise in Washington State codes and our staff’s long history in healthcare architecture with WELL AP accreditation and know-how in sustainable architectural design standards.
Our goal is to design medical facilities and clinics that combine function and placemaking in a way that serves everyone.
