When Olympia-based firm The Artisans Group designed this no-stress, energy efficient home, they put every inch to good use. The circular floor plan was designed to be open and fluid with floor to ceiling windows that allow for sweeping views. The kitchen sits in the central area of the home and boasts light-hued maple wood punctuated by dark countertops. The backsplash becomes a gorgeous statement piece with Pental’s Moda Vetro Glass Stone mosaic tile. The light color palette achieves the homeowners’ desire for the space to glow, while sleek and simple design allows for functionality. This house is also the first Certified Passive House on the San Juan Islands, and only the fourth in the state of Washington. Passive status was accomplished through features including an insulated exterior shell, efficient windows and doors, a heat recovery system, and careful window placement. The final product is an elegant retreat from clutter and over stimulation, masterfully photographed by Art Gray.
